Not looking for latest and greates, just something in a decent price range, that wont break the bank...

I haven't had a new machine since the one we put together at the shop, which was what, almost 4 years ago?
Now you can put one together for $457? Amazing!

I know, I pulled my past order for the machine we built at the shop for me, and that was back in 06, cost me almost $900 at the time... lol

Just wanting to make sure these items are a good fit though...

Kia, I'd go with a better CPU - I've got the X2 6000 and I really love it. For just a little more you can get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103678
It's a 7850, and apparently a quad core with 2 disabled, so you might get really lucky and be able to unlock them later to extend its life a bit.

I'd also look at a Radeon 4670 like this :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127415
- it's cheaper and faster than the 9500 GT

Apart from that, it mostly seems good, though I'd be tempted to shy away from Gigabyte motherboards.

Thanks Strong, I like the card and the better processor, however I am not liking the fact that I HAVE to get the "free game" which if you think about it isnt really free becuase the rebate is on the card, and i have to pay $20 for the game, so its a wash... lol

What MD would you suggest, why stay away from GB board?

What about this board?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157154

Trying to keep the total down.. lol on a budget, but dont want crap either

That board looks fine so far as I can tell, though I really don't know enough about them. I've always been happy with Asus, so I'd agree with Maj there, they are reliable. That said, though, the board gets good reviews and the specs are pretty nice.

Yeah, right now I am at $494.84 with shipping, I like the price, need to save up a few months, and with my luck some of the parts will be no longer available... lol

Thanks for the input, I will let you all know...

I was just browsing, so you ignore this if you want but I work on computers for a living so I know a little about building them.

First thing that jumps out his that is a HORRIBLE price for a hard drive. You should be able to get either a lot more space or save a lot more money than paying $95 for 250gigs that isn't a Raptor.

As of this post, you can get a TB Spinpoint which has only 3 platters (fantastic drive) for $80

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=10007194

If you want to save cash the 7200.10 was a great hard drive back in the day, still is pretty good, 250gb for $55

That Asus mobo you linked is a Micro ATX board, I wouldn't go there for a desktop PC (notice how few expansion slots there are, if you put a graphics card in that you'll cover up one or both PCI slots and the dinky northbridge and southbridge cooling might come back to haunt you after serious gaming.

The 7850 is a good deal, lately I prefer Intel at a slightly higher price point, but on a budget it works.

I would just concentrate on getting a known chipset like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813135085

ECS has gotten a lot better lately.

Graphics card, if you can squeeze it there is a new budget king at the $100 price point, might be worth it if it'll last you a few more months

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102835

That and don't scrimp on the power supply, make sure it's a good name brand like you've got.

good luck.

That isn't an ASUS mb he linked to, its an ASRock(I think thats Foxconn), but I would stay away from it if possible.

And the video card you linked to had terrible reviews, and I have had nothing but bad experience with Saphire, but your milage may vay.

Also thats a 2 above the Hard Drive, (I have worked on and with cmputers for most of my professional working career), and I wouldnt be dumb enough to pay $95 for a 250gb HDD.

I am getting 2 of them, so I can set up a RAID aray... I just havent decided if it will be RAID 0 OR RAID 1.

On one hand you get the redundany with RAID 1, however I kinda like the speed of the RAID 0.

Either way, they are $47.99 per HDD...

I don't see terrible reviews, it's only got 1 because it's brand new. And I make a point to never read Newegg's anyway, the average user is an idiot.

My bad on the hard drives, but I would definately reconsider the RAID if you're going for performance. RAID 1 or 0 is only going to hurt your seek times on a integrated RAID card. Seek times are the biggest factor in loading the OS and a game level.

I was looking, and I realize that my recommendations all cost more money, but you might consider dropping down to only 2 gigs of RAM and saving yourself some cash to put into a video card. I just don't know if I'd consider anything in the sub $75 price point if you want to enjoy games.

I agree with you that money is well spent in a good video card.
I don't know if that vid card is new or not, but i do know that I have personally had bad experience with Saphire brand. Thats why I said your milage may vary :Sunny:
I also agree about Newegg reviews. But while I rarely pay attention to them, this product having only one, and it saying the same thing I felt about Saphire made me think it was worth mentioning.
