So back to Mars. If aliens from Mars are Martians, does that make aliens from Venus Venusians? Cuz i think they exist and make really good Blinds.

LOL Jed!

My perception of Spooky's post is that it was sarcasm but then I don't really know his style just yet. I often "read" things into what other people write based on my perception of the banter.

No harm/no foul to me though. I really love this sh*t and not to say that our forums will ever reach Nacho status...we're getting there slowly.

Meanwhile for those of you who haven't already figured it out...I often portray the antagonist and then sit back for a bit and watch the poo fly...so keep up the good work!!! :RubberNecker:

It is still registred in Saints name tho, and he owns the name until something like 2013 ( or was it 2015?) I can't remember.

would love to see us growing at a faster rate...........

Haha! Just stopping by to say hello. Hey Maj hope you are doing well! Thanks for the email. I am still alive!

So NASA announced they found water on the moon today. How funny. NASA landed a craft on the moon 40 years ago and now they tell us this? Never got too much into the moon here but I sure did talk about Mars for a minute. It is just a matter of time till everyone knows there is flowing water and quite possibly vegetation (life) on Mars.

Just to refresh Mack's memory. :)

Want to know which is the best Engineering college in Chennai where NASA comes for campus selections? I have an ambition to join NASA. I am MPC student with 95%+marks in Intermediate(Pursuing). Would like to know what exactly is subject that i need choose or specialise in and also which is the best college of Engineering in Tamil Nadu where NASA comes down to do Campus recruitments.

Good question. My aunt and uncle both work for NASA. One is an ME the other an EE. Either of those fields are regularly hired at NASA. You are in Chennai huh? I will be in Pune tomorrow. I fly out tonight for a week for work.

:RubberNecker:

The Curiosity Rover has found evidence of an ancient stream that flowed "vigorously" on Mars where the Rover is now exploring, NASA said on Thursday.

NPR reports that this is "definitive proof" that water once existed on Mars.

Stream bed gravels were observed among the rocks on the surface of Mars, according to a statement from NASA.

"From the size of gravels it carried, we can interpret the water was moving about 3 feet per second, with a depth somewhere between ankle and hip deep," said Curiosity science co-investigator William Dietrich of the University of California, Berkeley.

Interesting this thread came back alive. I just ran across this article on NPR today:

http://www.npr.org/2012/11/20/165513016 ... um-for-now
They have some exciting new results from one of the rover's instruments. On the one hand, they'd like to tell everybody what they found, but on the other, they have to wait because they want to make sure their results are not just some fluke or error in their instrument.

It's a bind scientists frequently find themselves in, because by their nature, scientists like to share their results. At the same time, they're cautious because no one likes to make a big announcement and then have to say "never mind."

The exciting results are coming from an instrument in the rover called SAM. "We're getting data from SAM as we sit here and speak, and the data looks really interesting," John Grotzinger, the principal investigator for the rover mission, says during my visit last week to his office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. That's where data from SAM first arrive on Earth. "The science team is busily chewing away on it as it comes down," says Grotzinger.

SAM is a kind of miniature chemistry lab. Put a sample of Martian soil or rock or even air inside SAM, and it will tell you what the sample is made of.

Grotzinger says they recently put a soil sample in SAM, and the analysis shows something earthshaking. "This data is gonna be one for the history books. It's looking really good," he says.

Grotzinger can see the pained look on my face as I wait, hoping he'll tell me what the heck he's found, but he's not providing any more information.
Here's to you, as good as you are, And here's to me, as bad as I am, But as good as you are and as bad as I am, I'm as good as you are, bad as I am.

so after going to Mars to live for a bit, I would hate to come back to earth where all this gravity is just waiting to weigh me down.

Could be dark sand but looks very much like rippling water doesn't it?

:donquixote: :madscience:

Re-reading this thread is interesting considering the NASA announcement today.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/28/us/mars-n ... ouncement/

(CNN)Potentially life-giving water still flows across the ancient surface of Mars from time to time, NASA scientists said Monday in revealing a potential breakthrough in both the search for life beyond Earth and human hopes to one day travel there.

Wonder if Mack is still around.

Mack quote:
FYI - false color images are used to emphasize differences among rock and soil materials.

My response:
Of course I am aware of this. I have been for many years. My question is why false color images have been presented to the public at large for so many years with the inference that they are true representations of what the surface of Mars really looks like? Why not use the false color images of Mars for scientific research and present the true color images in public press releases from the get go?

Why hedge and haw about the existence of water on Mars when we can see there is not only ice but flowing water on Mats for so many years?

Come on Mack! I am not a beginner on the subject here!

And this was in 2008!
